4/12/2016 0 Comments Their Anti-LGBT, We're Anti-Them!Right when you read the head line what jumps out is that the Governor is backing down, but then they add ".... a bit...., so its a little misleading at 1st, as Gladstone said they are trying to catch our attention. Another thing this piece is from the LA Times, so as most of know there is a large LGBT community in Los Angeles. I feel like Gladstone pointed out in here book, journalist are going to write for their audiences, in this case for that community. This piece talked about the bad that has come from the laws that were set into place that took some rights away from LGBT citizens in North Carolina. I feel that in some way they want to report mostly negative results to get their readers in LA happy about the resentment and financial repercussions that has come with these laws. Lets say this was a paper in North Carolina, maybe they would omit some of those facts to allow their audience to enjoy what they are reading. While reading this article there were a few statements stated as facts, but were actually options since they weren't factually proven. For example "“The sweeping discrimination law he signed has already cost North Carolina hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue,” Cooper said." This statement was from the District Attorney General from NC, we have no way of knowing if what he said is true, since he did not show us proof, also how can he know that the money lost is due to the actions of the governor and not another factor. Reading through the article a majority of it was comments from people, and business that did not like what was going on in that state, so there those are opinions of people. One fact that was presented was from PayPal, they stated that due to this they were going to abandon the plan to bring 400 jobs to the state. Their source is creditable since its the spokesperson for PayPal, and their job is to speak to the media and let the public know about what they are doing.
